Tonight during the MTV Restore the Shore telethon, MTV announced it is partnering with United Way and yours truly to host MTV’s Alternative Spring Break in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. “MTV’s Alternative Spring Break” will give young people a way to help create opportunities for a better life in communities devastated by the storm. The service effort will take place in Spring 2013, with exact dates and additional details to be announced soon.
MTV first hosted an alternative spring break in partnership with United Way in 2006 when 100 spring breakers from around the country skipped the typical beach parties and nights out by heading to communities in the Gulf Coast to help with long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina and we’re doing it again to help rebuild after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy.
