Our faith in the wealth of talent percolating at universities across the country led us to create the mtvU Student Filmmaker Award. Judging by the finalists for the inaugural competition, we weren't wrong. Rising to the top was Joshua Caldwell's "The Beautiful Lie," which was chosen by mtvU.com users as the winner of the first prestigious award and a development deal with mtvU.

"I think students really have a voice and have something to say," Caldwell said as he accepted the award onstage at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. He also filmed his entire experience among celebrities on the red carpet and backstage. Watch his amazing night and his award-winning film, "The Beautiful Lie."
