Feast Your Ears On YCBAW’s ‘Promwave’

  by Mark Tichy.

This is Required Listening our ongoing crush-a-thon wherein we laud praise and adoration upon the things that have been relentlessly streaming into our earholes, dilating our pupils and causing surges of fanboy/girl love bliss.

Brand spanking new from You Can Be A Wesley ‘PROMWAVE’

Just as we started slipping into an egg nog induced stupor over the holidays (Alton Brown’s recipe here) one of our favorite bands, You Can Be A Wesley, went and released a new 7″ called PROMWAVE.

We found out about YCBAW last semester when they’re delightful video for “Talking Science” was picked out for us by Boston U’s WTBU on their College Radio Countdown. We’ve featured them again since though because we find the combination of singer Saara Untracht-Oakner’s fiercely gentle voice with the bands hyper-addictive melodies and bass lines too hard to resist. The two singles on PROMWAVE, “Bamp” and “Phase” mesh together the energy of a live performance with the crispness of well produced studio work so it makes sense that they were recorded mostly live and in 8 hours at Converse’s rad Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn.

PROMWAVE was produced by Chris McLaughlin who runs 1867 recording studio in Boston and engineered by Hector Castillo and Aaron Bastinelli. Excellent album artwork below by Nick Zegel. Hopefully this will come out on vinyl soon as well. Love you Wesley’s.
