Regina Spektor
Hi all! For some reason, this has been a slower music week for me than most. I’m not finding anything I am so ga-ga about that I must shout it from the mountain tops, but here’s a few things that caught my eye. Also, if you DID find something that deserves to be mentioned please let me know. I’m always up for a good suggestion.
FINALLY. Regina Spektor will be releasing her follow-up to Begin to Hope on June 23rd. It’s been almost three years since we’ve heard from the songstress, witty Ben Folds singles aside, so I am looking forward to what Far will bring.
I’m not going to lie. She and Him? Not my favorite music group of all time. Sorry Zooey! I still love you and your amazing bangs. But M. Ward on his own? There is something so wonderfully beautiful and perfect about this music. His voice has such a delicate sweet touch that even when he is singing the simplest of lyrics, as he does in “Rave On,” you are fully encapsulating in the love song. It doesn’t matter that we’ve heard a million OTHER love songs, his still feel fresh and new and inspired. (Or maybe I am being extra girly today. It’s a possibility.) The video for “Rave On” is out today and its quirky animation is a perfect match to this track. I sort of hope this is what Wes Anderson’s interpretation of Fantastic Mr. Fox looks like. Did anyone else think of that when they were watching? Or I’m the only weirdo? Will Oldham is probably mad right now.
All Things Go is coming to Kayne’s defense today, although I am still skeptical that he is beginning to see the error of his ways. Speaking of All Things Go, Zack and I are currently engaged in the epic battle of the sports fan century as our beloved teams, the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals, will begin a knock-down drag-out fight to the playoff finish this evening. Personally, I won’t be happy until I see Avery taking a bath in champagne right out of the Stanley Cup. Fingers crossed he pulls some classic antics on Ovechkin tonight. (Somewhere in Italy, Zack is screaming at me.)
I want to like this video for “The Water” because personally I feel the ballad highlight’s the range of Feist’s vocals but um… it’s a tad overdone. Right? I mean, I’m pretty much right. I know Kevin Drew thinks her and Cillian Murphy have similar eyes or something but C’MON. Although shot in a pretty landscape, it goes on for the length of an eternity. However, I’m drawn to it because there is something so creepy about Murphy, yet still so awesome. What is this unknowable factor?! I feel the same way about the song. It’s not the most chipper of tunes, but I’ll listen and sink down into a melancholy sadness that makes me wistful and dreamy. The fact that Drew was somehow able to pick on these vibes and splice them together is noteworthy. I just don’t understand why it must be SO.FRICKING.LONG. But yet I must watch it! AH.
What say you? Let me know in the comments section.
Also don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and watch this if you would like to smile today. EARTH ROCKS.
