Oren Lavie Revives the Music Video

Oren Lavie - Her Morning EleganceTo anyone who thinks the music video medium is a dying breed, I urge you to watch the clip for Israeli singer/songwriter Oren Lavie’s acoustic beauty “Her Morning Elegance” and rethink your stance. I first discovered this video a couple weeks ago on the awesome blog, videos.antville.org and I’ve revisited it many times since.

Videos that use stop-motion animation are a dime-a-dozen, but I’ve rarely seen one so creative and well-done. The clip shows a women running, flying, falling, swimming, and dancing all while never leaving her bed while sheets and pillows act as props floating by. The stop-motion gives the whole video a dreamy, fantasty-like quality (the falling into the ocean scene is incredible). The video was pieced together using 3,225 still photos, and I can only imagine how long it took to plan the sequence out. The finished product is magical.

Although it is definitely the video the attracted me at first, through the multiple watchings I’ve grown to love the song as well. The track has a smooth, jazzy feel and it blends nicely with Oren Lavie’s smokey baritone. I’m reminded of some of Death Cab For Cutie’s mellower work (e.g. “Brothers In A Hotel Bed”) by this song.
