New Stuff: The Roots, Marina and The Diamonds, Volcano Choir, and The Dead Weather

The Roots

The Roots

Hey all. Just a quick catch-up and some items that have been catching my attention lately. Hope you’ll enjoy. Also feel free to drop me any hints on new up and coming music in the comments section below. I’m always on the look-out.

Last night, The Roots debuted their new song “How I Got Over It” for Jimmy Fallon cause, well. They work for him. (Even if they wish they were doing other stuff.) So the song is pretty much jazzy and awesome. There’s nothing like singing about heartbreak with a bangin’ beat in the background. Check it out here.

Yesterday, Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver fame, and also my musician crush #1 right now) formally announced his project with Collections of Colonies of Bees, though he has previously discussed in a Dark Was the Night interview. Ladies and gentlemen, they bring you Volcano Choir (one of the better band names I have heard recently). Vernon mentioned it will be more experimental, and I picturing kind of echo-y billowy hymnal-like tracks. What you would hear in a very hip church. Needless to say, CANNOT WAIT.

Still eagerly awaiting the release of The Dead Weather’s first LP Hore Hound and their upcoming show at Terminal 5. Also keep in mind that we’ll get a good dose of Jack White in the upcoming rockumentary It Might Get Loud. Seriously, how awesome is that going to be?

I’ve written about Marina and The Diamonds before, but she hasn’t quite caught on in the US of A just yet. Pretty sure it’s only a matter of time. She’s released a very interesting new video for track “I Am Not a Robot.” I’m not entirely sold on the concept but I adore the song and Marina’s vocals. I hope she’ll be touring stateside soon as I’d very much like to see her in person. Also, if you really want to fall in love, read her blog. It’s quite charming.
