Grizzly Bear Performs, Dark Night of the Soul Hits the Blogs, and a Few New Listens

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear

Hey all. Here’s just a few things that caught my attention this week. Cheers to a pleasant listening experience!

Grizzly Bear has hit the UK. Check out the live performance of “Two Weeks” in this kind of sub par clip. Too bad about the quality but definitely worth a look/listen. “Two Weeks” is a stand-out on the album and I can’t get enough of Ed Droste’s voice. The Veckatimest is out in just a few weeks on May 26th.

The soundtrack for this afternoon is the cleverly marketed Dark Night of the Soul album, which just hit the blogs. I wrote about this previously when strange posters started showing up in bloggers’ mailboxes. But now we know it features Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse, The Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, Frank Black, Julian Casablancas from The Strokes, Jason Lytle, and The Shins’s James Mercer under the guidance of the one and only David Lynch. Admit it. Your head just exploded. Have a looksie and let me know what you think. It’s getting my stamp of approval thus far.

Neon Gold never leads me astray and continues their streak with Azealia Banks. This remix of “Seventeen” is excellent. Amazing new talent. And so frickin’ young to boot.

You know who else never leads me astray? My fellow blogger Zack Friendly. Zack’s blog All Things Go turned me onto one of my favorite artists Friendly Fires and now he’s clued me onto Ra Ra Riot. They released The Rhumb Line last summer and it somehow escaped my notice. So let’s all make up for lost time shall we?

If you like my suggestions, keep up on Twitter and feel free to chime in with your own recommendations as well. I’m always down for new music.
