Friendly Fires rocked my socks off.

Friendly Fires

At the beginning of December I grabbed my best friend and forced her to go downtown to see one of my new favorite bands: Friendly Fires. For one reason or another, we arrived at the show impossibly early but the venue was on the smallest side so it facilitated me being about three to four feet away from the stage the entire time once the gig was underway. Oh that’s right. I was all up in the front when Ed Mac made his way on stage and frickin’ chaos broke loose.

First things first, before they came on I most have told about ten different people or so “Just let them play Photo Booth. Oh please please please.” (Not annoying at all.) The group must have been digging on all my magically special music vibes cause that was the OPENER. You and me in the photo booth, waiting for the flash… CUE DANCING.

And then Ed jumped off stage and into the crowd and saddled right up to me and before I knew it I was holding on to that Brit’s sweaty plaid-covered shoulders and all kinds of saucy booty-shaking took place. Seriously, that was one sweaty guy. The audience was getting drenched and LOVING IT.

On a more serious note, the group had manic energy and performed with a passionate connection to the crowd; they were all about us getting involved in the rhythm of the show and singing along was highly encouraged as well. I would recommend seeing them anytime and will make sure to put in another appearance when they swing back around to the States. Unfortunately this was the last night of their US tour and they’re headed off to Europe for quite a bit. They will be headed to SXSW come March though, so if you’re down in Austin try and catch.

Shout out to the guys over at All Things Go for cluing me into what is fast-becoming a strong favorite. Spread the love!
