I have already professed my love for Friendly Fires on my own blog but I figured it was about time I spread the loving around. Granted, Lindsay and Taylor have done the same, but they wrote their posts without getting to watch the interesting new video for “Skeleton Boy” from the boys across the pond. The song is a bit more upbeat and less ethereal or breathy than blogosphere-favorites “Paris” or “Jump in the Pool”, and thus is a bit more accessible to your average alt-rock listener. The video is visually stunning and creative, with the artists playing in all-black outfits in front of a black background, accentuated only by white faces, instruments, and lines on the clothes, giving the illusion that the kids are…well…skeleton boys. Borrowing some adjectives from your typical college hippie stoner, the result is “like totally trippy and far out man.” But really though, the video represents a step in the right direction for the young band–a step into the spotlight and into the mainstream public conciousness. It’s too early to tell, but given their recent singles and videos, the band might be immune to the trappings that snared other blog darlings (see: Tapes’n'Tapes, Cold War Kids). I’ll be waiting with baited breath for their follow-up to see if my predictions are correct, but until I now I have to keep listening to their debut LP and watching the new vid which is alright for me.
Love,
Zack
