Fleet Foxes Enthrall Again With “Mykonos”

Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant EPHere’s why the Fleet Foxes are such amazing genuises. They make a killer new video but it’s NOT a video for a song off their self-titled LP, it’s totally for a song off their EP Sun Giant and it’s one of their best songs as well. Which basically means they just said to us, “ha-frickin’-ha go buy that too bitches” and you know what? I respect that. Because I am like a month behind normal time (SORRY but I need to do other things like work and navigate the world of corporate politics and you know. Other stuff too.), I just saw this. Forgive my tardiness but I had to blog about it just in case there are also some of you out there who, similar to myself, are all, “Wait. What happened? New video? Fleet Foxes? YEEEESSSSS!!!”

No doubt these guys are one of my favorite groups to emerge from 2008. I fear it’s only a matter of time before the blogosphere chews them up and spits them out since they have been lovin’ em for a good year now. I will, however, continue with an outpouring of enthusiastic praise because their blended vocal harmony is magical and makes me feel all fuzzy inside. (You fickle, fickle blogs.)

The video is immensely interesting to watch obviously - Look it’s a bird! Now it’s a fish! Now it’s a ’stache! - and also painstakingly created by leadsinger Robin Pecknold’s brother: Sean Pecknold. Check out this video to see the intricateness in action. The way the shapes shift yet reemerge against the eerie landscapes is quite beautiful and offer a consistent quality to the piece as well. The way which the lone triangles fall through layers of earth (I’m throwing my own intrepretation in here) seems to echo the call of “You go/wherever you go today.” The pieces will land where they will.

Please check out the video if you haven’t seen it already. Also Taylor did a great post about Fleet Foxes when we first got started here on the blog and there is a wonderfully-shot “Ahead of the Curve” if you’re longing for more of this group. The light is amazing and worth a peep. Also, let me know what you think of the group in the comments section. Overrated or worth the hype? (TOTALLY worth the hype. Just saying.)
