Well this just blew my mind as well as the collective blogosphere’s. DANGER MOUSE. How is David Lynch involved?! HHHoooooowwwww??? What does this mean?! I must know! It’s probably going to be hands-down fantastic. I’m already mega-excited. WHEE.
Anyways, how are all of you? Any Fiona Apple fans out there? Cause I am one and always felt bad about that whole mix-up over The Extraordinary Machine, although word is her and Jon Brion are perfectly fine and that rift was just a rumor. Needless to say, it’s no wonder she disappeared off into hiding for quite a long while. Still, just like Amrit I am craving her delicious bluesy honey-wrapped voice so many thanks to him for this tip on her cover of Cy Coleman’s “Why Try to Change Me Now.” I think I am going to make this my new theme song. It’s wonderful. Truly. I won’t even really attempt to describe it, please go listen. Also even though I know some of you might be prone to disagree with this (and so many of you seem to be prone to disagreeing with me this week AHEM), I really like cover songs especially when they are done well and Miss Apple really seems to have a knack for them. Now we just need another album. Maybe if we ask her nicely?
Deathcab for Cutie released their new “Open Door” EP today (listen to “Little Bribes” on their MySpace page) but more importantly Ben Gibbard started a Twitter account (It looks like I got punk’d big time. Management confirmed to Stereogum that Ben’s twitter is in fact, FAKE. um April’s Fools? EPIC FAIL.) and now he and Colin Meloy from The Decemberists just sass each other back and forth and it’s kind of awesome. All in a friendly, good-natured way OF COURSE. Ben’s first twitter (tweet? For god sakes will someone tell me what is the correct way to say that already?!) was about Zooey taking his last name but then he removed it. SHUCKS. And yes, I can call him Ben cause we’re friends and stuff. (No, not really. Incidentally if y’all feel like following me as well that would be neat-o. Just saying.)
There’s been a lot of Pet Shop Boys talk amongst my friends today. First my friend Imogen said she would not come to a gig with me on Saturday night unless the DJ promised to play this group so she could dance to them somewhere other than the privacy of her own room. So Jeff did indeed offer to accommodate this request and even dig out his limited edition 10″ of “It’s Gonna be Alright.” Then Ashley was pointing out the cover art for Yes is pretty fantastic on Twitter. (Thanks Mark Farrow! And Ashley. Oh yes, and Jeff too of course.) While we’re on this subject, let’s all watch the video for new single “Love Etc.” It’s delightfully bouncy. Kind of reminds you of a pinball machine, doesn’t it?
