Lindsay’s List

1. Prince has a new song out called “Valentina.” It’s really about Salma Hayek but the Purple One directs his lyrics to the actor’s 17 month old daughter and lets Valentina know just how sexy he thinks her mama is. Um. Well. It’s a great track but it’s… creepy. But in a way that makes you want to listen to again. Like a “Did he really just say? Oh yes. He did. Look at that…” kind of way. I’m not sure what to make of this. I like it but at the same time I am sort of scared to actually admit it to anyone. You know. Aside from all you guys ;)

2. My friend Nathaniel over at I Guess I’m Floating, compiled an excellent compilation of Nirvana covers to mark the 15th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death.

3. Just today St. Vincent released a video for her new single “Actor” and it is excellent. Focusing on the little quirks that people tend to exhibit when they’re nervous… smart decision. The total drop into nervous breakdown is incredibly unnerving and highlights her clever lyrics all the more. I often talk up Annie Clark but I can’t help it. I just think she is truly a revelation.

Taylor’s List

1. The TV show Fringe returned this week and introduced a character that looks remarkably like a mini-Billy Corgan. It took a few episodes for this show to get into a groove, but the last few episodes have been really good. Jon Noble’s character, Walter Bishop, is easily one of the best characters on TV and Lance Reddick, of course, makes everything better.

2. Harlem Shakes - Technicolor Health. Zack and Lindsay have been on top of this album for a while but I’m a recent convert to the glorious sounds of Harlem Shakes. This album is refreshing, exhilarating, and unabashedly cheerful. One of the best debuts of the year so far. Don’t miss it.

3. I highly recommend seeing Adventureland, but don’t go in expecting it to be anything like Superbad. It’s a coming-of-age story sort-of like Freaks and Geeks (Martin Starr even plays a main role) and has an amazing soundtrack featuring The Replacements, Lou Reed, Husker Du, and David Bowie. [Ed.'s note: Lindsay highly recommends this as well.]

Adrian’s List

1. The 13-year-old inside of me has reawakened and is going absolutely crazy. Blink-182/Weezer summer tour? Yes please.

2. Republicans across the country will try to simultaneously tea-bag Obama on April 15th.

3. Anybody in NYC should go check out a little play by Swedish performance group KEL this coming Monday, April 13th. These three charming ladies cover everything from global warming, the developmental world, and recycling. I had the opportunity to see them at the Swedish Embassy last Wednesday and they put on a fantastic show. Make sure to talk to them afterward, they’re wonderful people. I love Swedes.

Zack’s List

1. Local D.C. rappers/writers/musicians TheFiveOne have been putting out conscious and interesting music for a hot minute, but singer/rapper/instrumentalist Green Pierre recently tipped me off to their newest project, 5109: The Remix Album, in which they release a new fresh remix of your indie favorites every week for all of 2009. Check out this week’s hot-off-the-presses remix of Death Cab for Cutie’s “What Sarah Said” and stay tuned for more innovative material straight from my hometown, the Nation’s Capital.

2. Baseball season is upon us, and my favorite teams have gotten off to slightly different starts. My beloved Baltimore Orioles took two of three from the evil Yankees to start off the season, while my Washington Nationalsnot so much. Still, it’s always great when baseball season starts, and I can’t wait to get home and tailgate.

3. Just stumbled across the line-up for All Points West this Summer and immediately picked myself up a ticket. Thursday looks like the highlight (The National, enough said), but the news has got me excited to come home to the States.

As always, have a great weekend and follow us on Twitter: Lindsay, Taylor, Adrian, Zack, and mtvU.
