Our Favorite Things: Bat for Lashes, Manchester Orchestra, Stuart Murdoch and Anni Rossi

Bat For Lashes

Bat For Lashes

Lindsay’s List

1. Bat for Lashes is streaming her entire new album Two Suns on MySpace. If you haven’t been able to tell, I am a huge fan of ultra-hip female indie rockers with unusual voices, so naturally I am loving the new offering from Natasha Khan.

2. The President has an awful lot on his plate right now. There are so many important political factors to attend to… so let’s talk about how H-O-T Michelle Obama is! STYLE ICON. Next Jackie-O. That’s right I said it. This woman could wear a paper bag and make anything look amazing but this Thakoon really suits her.

3. Today in NYC, it is rainy and gross and totally depressing. You know what you need. Dolly Parton. She’s sunny, she likes dressing like a tramp. (Her words not mine!) Laughter through tears is her favorite emotion. (MOVIE REFERENCE!) And she is just so gosh darn positive. She makes the rest of us look like chumps without rhinestones.

Taylor’s List

1. Anni Rossi’s new album Rockwell. A very simplistic way to describe this artist would be to say she’s like Regina Spektor meets Andrew Bird. This might not be 100% accurate but I’m sticking with it for now. Download the song “Wheelpusher.”

2. The website Manbabies is totally creepy but I for whatever reason can’t stop looking. It exists in this bizarro universe where babies have man heads and men have baby heads. Check it out, but you’ve been warned about the creepiness.

3. I’m seeing the Hold Steady tonight, probably the greatest live band in America at the moment. The band’s releasing a live CD/DVD called A Positive Rage this week for those who don’t have a chance to experience them firsthand.

Adrian’s List

1. Wow, the new Manchester Orchestra album (Mean Everything to Nothing) is absolutely amazing and different from anything they’ve done before. “Shake It Out” makes me weak in the knees.

2. Fail: Wolverine leaked. As tempting/illegal as it may be to go ahead and watch it, I’m going to sit tight and wait until it comes out in the theaters. Gambit better be as awesome as I’m hoping he’ll be.

3. So glad there are still people out there who will fall for Sasha Baron Cohen’s antics. Behold the trailer for Bruno.

Zack’s List

1. Stuart Murdoch (of Belle & Sebastian fame) is putting together his own musical side project, God Help the Girl, set for release in mid-May. If his solo work is anything like “Another Saturday” off the Dark Was the Night album then color me jazzed. [Ed.'s note: If you haven't followed Zack's suggestion to get the excellent BBC Sessions, then you should.]

2. Speaking of Dark Was the Night, check out this P-fork interview with The National’s Aaron Dressner, in which he discusses the Dark Was the Night collabo concert at Radio City (!!!) and a new National album (!!!!111!1!1!1!<3!)

3. My Washington Wizards, standing tall with the worst record in the NBA (18-59), decided to beat the best team in the NBA last night, our arch-nemesis the Cleveland Cavaliers. Our full roster was intact for the first time this season. That’s right ladies and gents. Agent Zero has returned.
