ARMS Record Release at Pianos

I was pretty disappointed last month when the Harlem Shakes broke up. Technicolor Health was on my best-list-thus-far earlier in the summer and the band was so great live. They seemed to have so much promise and suddenly they were gone. But for every door that closes, a window opens and guitar-player Todd Goldstein is letting in some light.

Although the Kids Aflame LP for his solo project ARMS has been out for quite a while now, he has re-released it here in the US and is embarking on a mission to bring ARMS to the forefront of public consciousness. It’s working too.

Last night at Pianos in NYC, Goldstein and new band members Tlacael Esparza and Matt Fasano tore thru most of the album and riled up the audience. First debuting upcoming video for “Eyeball” and then opening the show with one of my favorites “The Frozen Lake,” these guys cat-called with their buddies in the audience and generally just had a blast on stage. My personal highlight was when Goldstein and Fasano couldn’t get back on track with the beat and both dissolved into laughter. Those are the moments that make live music priceless.

Ending with a rousing rendition of “Tiger Tamer,” I couldn’t help but hope that ARMS really catches on and I truly think big things are ahead for this bunch. Harlem who?
