MONSTA is a trio who is pushing the EDM envelope through their instrument-based sound and the unique vocal style of their singer. Per the groups website:
“I was at South by Southwest with my manager Tim [Smith] and a few friends,” says Skrillex. “Tim says, ‘I got something,’ and pulls up [MONSTA's ‘Holdin' On’]. I said, ‘That’s a sick track and a cool vocal sample. Where’d they get that from? Is that Aretha Franklin?’’ But it wasn’t a sample. It was Christopher’s powerfully androgynous performance of an original song written and recorded by the group.
Not long after the band signed to Skrillex’s label OWSLA, which will released their forthcoming EP.
This video for “Holdin On” features a homeless girl who transforms into a party animal on the verge of self-destruction. It’s a fine accompaniment to the catchy track. Enjoy.
