The Hot Seat: David E. Beats

beatsDavid E. Beats dishes on heat stroke, drunken dancing and more on this week’s Hot Seat.

1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.

The craziest touring situation was during the Time Out NY Make Music NY Festival. My band and I had to do 2 shows in one day, an hour apart, in different boroughs. It was over 90 degrees and we had to play outside at both venues. After hauling our gear to both places, performing the same set twice, then hauling it back home, I got “Sun Sickness”. I started hallucinating and couldn’t sleep or eat for a day. I really give 100% for the fans!

2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?

I’d love to take Advanced Music Theory, mainly because it never hurts to know more about your crafts! I plan on picking up piano soon as well. Maybe take more of Western Music History as well. And general World History. I am into those kinda things!

3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?

I think that the most fun city I’ve ever visited so far is NYC. Can’t imagine any other city where you can be in Brooklyn having a pizza one minute, then in Queens seeing friends, then at a loft party in Manhattan. Just so much to do!

4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?

The best advice I was ever given was by my step-father. When I moved to NYC I told him I was dropping out to pursue a music career. He told me to always follow my gut and do what I feel is right for me. I’ve been doing that and it has always worked!

5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?

This band from the late 90s called Mansun. Their music was sooooo progressive for that time. Classic!

6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.

The last good book I read was The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. I am currently reading Kelly Cutrone’s new book! I love Entourage as well!

7. What’s the first concert you ever saw – how was it?

My first concert was a Rattatat show in DC’s the 930 Club. I was very drunk off Jack Daniels and dancing with too many girls to remember that night, but I do remember I loved the music and the lighting.

8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?

The items I cant live without on tour are :

  • My Guitar – because practice makes perfect!
  • My Laptop – Netflix swag all day!
  • My Phone – Gotta call the homies!
  • 9. Who are your major musical influences?

I am influenced by anything that sounds amazing to my ears, which is just about anything out. I like to draw from both good and bad artists, see what works and what doesn’t. As for right this moment, I am into Mansun, TI, Jay Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, 30 Seconds to Mars, and David E Beats x The White House Band! Lol!
