Q & A with Jared Leto from
30 Seconds To Mars

Q: Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
A: Well, it was probably the night we went off the road into a giant ravine while crossing the Rocky Mountains. Thankfully no one was hurt, but when we all climbed out of the bus it was so dark we could barely see anything. Oddly quiet too…

Q: What type of college class would you most want to take and why?
A: Political science. So I can run against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger next term.

Q: What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
A: We recently went whitewater rafting in Big Sky, Montana on a day off in between shows. That was really beautiful. Our executive guitar Technician ‘Col. Buck’ fell in and I saved his life. In some cultures he would be my slave for the rest of his living days. But not in America. Dang. Our director of merchandise Brian fell in too and after thinking about letting him choke on the whitewater for a bit, I pulled him out using a classic heave ho off the ol’ life vest he was wearing. I guess I had a good day as far as saving lives goes.

Q: What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
A: Don’t take advice. Be an example.

Q: What’s in heavy rotation in your mp3/CD player right now?
A: They still make cd’s? Hehe. I listen to a lot of Jean Michel Jarre and Nelson. The new AFI sounds really nice. The Locust is fun to have sex to.

Q: The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
A: The 33 Strategies of War by Robert Greene. Good nightime reading.

Q: What’s the first concert you ever saw? How was it?
A: My mother took my brother and I to see Hendrix and Zepplin when we were very young. I think we got a good contact high.

Q: What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
A: A shoe horn, rubber gloves and my bat. Pomegranate juice is nice too.

Q: Who are your major musical influences?
A: Damien Hirst, Dr. Seuss, The Cure and U2.

Q: Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?
A: Question authority. Start a revolution. The students of the world live on the front line of the fate of the future. Oh, and find the Argus Apocraphex.
