The Hot Seat: The Cab

Hot Seat sat down with The Cab’s Cash Colligan. His band’s sound is infectious and they play amazing music, so why are the Spice Girls and David Hasslehoff major musical influences of his? Check out the interview, and you’ll see this bass player has a sense of humor to go along with his incredible musical stylings.

Q: Tell us about your craziest touring experience.

Cash: We were rolling through the Midwest when we suddenly got pulled over. The best part is that half the guys in the van automatically assume when you get pulled over by the cops that you’re getting arrested. But regardless, they thought we were a major drug operation. The dog showed up and searched everything, but for some strange reason only snapped at Marshall’s bag. The dog discovered Marshall’s minty shampoo and facial care products. Four cop cars and a canine unit later, we drove off free men and continued our voyage.

Q: What type of college class would you most want to take and why?

Cash: Broadcast journalism in high school was my only subject where I really cracked down and focused. If I were to hit up college, it would be for that. Oh, and some sort of homey lovey dovey class, with seven women per guy ratio. Those classes can never go wrong.

Q: What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?

Cash: I am all about L.A. Every culture, every style, everything is there. Vegas will always be my home at heart, but for some reason when I’m there [L.A.], I feel welcome and home as well.

Q: What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?

Cash: My father told me once, “Only you can make yourself have a bad day.” It’s true as simple as it sounds. It keeps that chin up 24-7 for me.

Q: What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?

Cash: Lil’ Weezy and Four Year Strong have been running like crazy. I’m also very into the new Tyga CD. “Coconut Juice Got Me Real Loose” is my summer jam as of now.

Q: What’s the last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to?

Cash: Nip Tuck, nothing can beat it in my book. Wasn’t much of a reader, but if I had to pick a book, it would have to be Tropic of Cancer, written by Henry Miller. I’d recommend it.

Q: What’s the first concert you ever saw and how was it?

Cash: Fourth grade, Spice Up Your Life world tour. It was at the UNLV area in Vegas. I was so amazed by the performance. I believe every guy my age can say the Spice Girls were their elementary school guilty pleasure, and if they don’t, they’re a damn liar.

Q: What are three items you can’t live without on tour?

Cash: Pop Tarts, IPod and plenty of random toys to keep entertainment during the 12-20 hour drives. I think I need rehab for my Pop Tart addiction, but I keep telling myself I don’t have a problem. I guess the first step to recovery is admitting I have a problem.

Q: Who are your major musical influences?

Cash: Andrew from Jack’s. Patrick has heavily influenced myself and the rest of the band will agree, he knows how to open eyes and work you to your best music ability. And, of course, we all know there wouldn’t be music today if it weren’t for David Hasslehoff. So I’m thankful everyday for him.

Q: Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?

Cash: Just thank you everyone who took a few minutes to read and know a little more cabbage knowledge. We look forward to meeting as many people on the road and just get this never ending party started. Love you all.
