This week, Sea Wolf stops by the mtvU Hot Seat to answer our burning questions.
1. Tell us about your craziest tour experience.
We played a festival in a college town once and were invited to crash at this house where a bunch of girls lived. They lead us up to the attic of their house, a giant 4 story Victorian, only to find about a dozen other bands all sleeping on the floor up there. It was so late, and we hadn’t booked a hotel, so we had no choice but to find some floor that wasn’t covered in musician, lay out our sleeping bags, and join the party.
2. What types of college class would you most want to take?
I would take a music theory class, because that’s something that I really never wrapped my head around. I know enough to get by, but a good intensive college course in it would really drill it in there once and for all.
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
New York is definitely the most fun to visit because you absolutely cannot run out of things to do there. There are all of the usual tourist traps, some of the worlds best art museums, and a million amazing bars and restaurants and parties. It’s almost impossible not to have fun there.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
Live in the moment. As told to me a million times by my mother.
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your mp3/cd player right now?
Neil Young’s American Stars ‘n Bars is getting a lot of spins on my record player right now.
6. The last good book you read or TV Show you’re addicted to
Right now I’m addicted to Mad Men. So good. Super smart and fascinating and beautifully done. Totally addicted.
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw? How was it?
I don’t remember. When I was a young child I lived in a small gold-rush town in California where bluegrass bands would play in the streets I remember seeing a lot of bluegrass and country music then, all over, but have no idea who was the first. It was just kind of always there.
8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
Earplugs for sleeping, so I can do it anywhere. A good, somewhat dumb but extremely entertaining book. And my iPhone.
9. Who are your major musical influences?
When I first started writing songs, about 10 years ago, I was really into the Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Belle & Sebastian, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliot Smith… to name a few…
Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to the mtvU watchers?
Please buy records again. It’s killing us.
