Sweet songstress Norah Jones answers our burning questions in this week’s Hot Seat.
1. Tell us about your craziest tour experience.
We played a show in Manila (The Philipines) in 2005. When we flew in the day of the show we were met at the airport with police escorts for our vans taking us to the venue. I felt like Royalty! At first I though it was a little nutty and scary that the police were helping little ol’ me to the venue by taking us the wrong way on crowded one way streets, but when I realized the amount of traffic they were helping us avoid I just went with it. I will probably never experience something like that ever again!
2. What types of college class would you most want to take?
Astronomy. I took it my Freshman year, but had to drop the class after a week due to a scheduling conflict. I wish I could have continued with it. I loved going out to the observatory at midnight for the lab. It was spooky, but so beautiful.
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Austin, Texas is one of my favorite places to go. Though I am a little biased, being a Texan and having friends there, you can’t beat the Salt Lick for BBQ, Barton Springs for a mid summer dip, or the unique bohemian brand of Texas charm.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
To be myself and not care too much about what other people think of me.
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your mp3/cd player right now?
Neil Young Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
6. The last good book you read or TV Show you’re addicted to
“Geek Love”, by Katherine Dunne. I love the TV series True Blood
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw? How was it?
MC Hammer! It was incredible! I was 12 years old!
8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
My ipod, English breakfast tea, and my bathing suit. But not necessarily at the same time.
9. Who are your major musical influences?
Always a tough question because there are too many from too many genres to actually list!
Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to the mtvU watchers?
Remember to have fun!
