The Hot Seat: Melanie Fiona

Melanie FionaMelanie Fiona answers our burning questions in this week’s Hot Seat.

1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
Melanie Fiona: On tour with Kanye West. It was my first real touring experience, tour bus and all. It was long days, long nights. Everytime I got a couple of hours of sleep on the bus, I’d wake up in a new city. And, it was the absolute BEST touring experience as well. As a new artist it was a dream come true to open for kanye west and perform for 15 to 20 thousand people a night! It was amaaaaazing!

2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?
Melanie Fiona: I’d like to take Language and Culture. It’ll come in handy as I travel the world!

3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Melanie Fiona: I really enjoy New York city. I thrive of the energy of that city, for work and play. There’s always something to do, and I really enjoy riding the train. The shopping is incredible!

4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
Melanie Fiona: Always listen to your gut. Everytime you ignore your instincts, you’re doing the wrong thing.

5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?
Melanie Fiona: Sade… Feeling groovy.

6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
Melanie Fiona: Most recently, I’m addicted to The Game… its not on tv anymore, but I don’t have the time to watch anyways. I youtube every episode when I can.

7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?
Melanie Fiona: Ha! New Kids on the Block! It was wild! I won the tickets off the radio station. I screamed so loud I pulled a muscle, and my dad had to carry me out the arena! Lol

8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
Melanie Fiona: Phone, computer, camera.

9. Who are your major musical influences?
Melanie Fiona: Outside of artists, my parents. Outside of having great taste in music, my dad plays guitar and my mom loves to sing. Growing up I listened to a lot of Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, Bob Marley. The old soul artists really influenced me.

10. Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?
Melanie Fiona: Make yourself a raisin bread, peanut butter and cheese sandwich… Its awesome!!
