The Hot Seat: Marco Polo & Torae

Marco Polo and Torae

Marco Polo and Torae pass on crashing the party this week, and instead opt for the the Hot Seat. Check out their answers to our burning questions.

1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.

Marco Polo: Seeing the “funky p**** club” in Germany.

Torae: I’d say the craziest thing was out in Romania. 1st of all cause it’s Romania, but 2ndly there was this chick soooooo persistent in trying to get it on. Which is cool I guess, except her boyfriend was right there the whole time & he was the host of the show we were on which made it even more awkward. In addition to the that he totally knew she was flirting with me, so it was uncomfortable it was just a real crazy, funny experience.

2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?

Marco Polo: Whichever has to best female to male ratio.

Torae: I’d take a physocolgy class so I could try & understand why people listen to & purchase all the wack music that’s spinning & selling so much these days

3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?

Marco Polo: Brooklyn because of the music and people.

Torae: I love Miami Florida. I always have fun out there. Lots of parties, lots of ladies in minimal clothes. The weather is dope too. That’s strictly for visitation though. I love living in NYC!!

4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?

Marco Polo: Always go first.

Torae: Torae: The only person that can stop you is YOU. That & always wear a rubber…..I’ve failed at the latter a few times…

5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?

Marco Polo: Nipsey Hussle “The Hussle Way”!!!! HEAT!

Torae: I’m listening to The Dream, a lot of Michael Jackson & that Marsha Ambrosious mixtape

6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.

Marco Polo: Family Guy.

Torae: I liked the book “Native Son” by Richard Wright. It’s a dope book. My favorite TV shows were The Game, but they cancelled it & CSI Vegas but they killed Warrick & got rid of Grissom. Now all I watch is Sports Center until NBA season rolls back around.

7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?

Marco Polo: My mother dragged us to see Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine, extremely scarring.

Torae: The 1st concert I saw was TLC at Madison Square Garden. The opener was Christina Aguilera which is kinda crazy to think about now. My 2nd was Puff Daddy & The Family “No Way Out Tour”…..Don’t judge me. That was the deal back in 97/98 yo…

8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?

Marco Polo: Newports, Laptop, Newports.

Torae: Laptop, iPod & a pic of my family..

9. Who are your major musical influences?

Marco Polo: ESG, S.O.S. Band, DJ Premier, EPMD, Large Professor.

Torae: I’m influenced by everybody making dope music. new, old, any genre. Just dope music. I listen to everything & I can always hear the the artists that are really passionate about what they’re doing. That drives my creativity & helps me to put out more dope music.
