Game Rebellion
Game Rebellion’s Nectic and Yohimbe drop some knowledge about themselves and the band in this week’s Hot Seat.
1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
Yohimbe: The craziest thing happened in London after we played at Outkast’s party. One of our members and one of our crew left with these two ladies. The girl driving I guess was drunk and she wrapped around a pole three blocks away. One of our Brothers lost his spleen, his heart came out the heart bag and a lung was pushed to the other side. An instrument was flattened. Our band member got a concussion and stitches on his head. His head was swollen like a helmet and he still found another woman that next night.
Netic: I would say Vegas and my whirlwind affair with a certain Playmate, but she didn’t try to kill me so I will have to go with Puerto Rico and the gun toting crooked promoters who didn’t want to pay us our arranged fee. (Nevertheless, we ended up getting payed way more than we agreed upon.)
2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?
Yohimbe: Business. I studied History in college. Although it gave perspective, I would def love to study the different approaches to business structure and law.
Netic: Luckily I had the opportunity to have a great college experience while attending SUNY Purchase. I was in the Music Conservatory where I had amazing professors, some of whom I’m still in contact with and have helped me tremendously in my career. So I would have to say anything dealing with Music, U can never take enough music theory.
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Yohimbe:I love visiting the Bay Area: Berkeley, Oakland, Frisco. When the band is out there we always take off and jam, or record with friends. Something about the Bay takes the NYC edge off. When I’m out there I curse less, think more positive and eat healthy. Last time out there me and this beautiful girl spent the whole day butt-a++ naked at the Harbin Hot Springs in Northern Cali. A real hippy place, yet only in the Bay would I strip down and jump into 110 degree water with a stone cold fox of a woman and just relax and feel the vibe. It was dope, til I got into it with another nudist and they called security and “poof” back to reality. The legal thing out there also makes it a nice trip. LOL.
Netic: Because I live in the greatest city in America (NYC), I’m puttin my money on Vegas. It’s just absurd and ridiculous, which makes it efffin awesome.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
Yohimbe: There’s no right way to do the wrong thing; Attraction is distraction; Stupidity is expensive.
Netic: Easily: wear a condom. And, as Yohimbe says, “there’s no right way to do the wrong thing,”which I have adopted and try to live by. Ohhhh, and something I got from Plaxico Burress: Make sure the saftey is on before you stick a gun in ya pants!
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?
Yohimbe I really like this heavy band Trash Talk, The songs, the riffs and vocals are sick.
Netic: Anything Nine Inch Nails or by Jack White, Jay Electronica and Jay Z. My two favorites are Prince and Bjork.
6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
Yohimbe: The last good book I read was Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged. A lot of folks don’t like her cause of how the Right Wingers use parts of her books to support their side. Yet to me her writing articulates the struggle that creative people have in this country when it comes to others controlling and sabotaging their work. I just started reading W.S. Burroughs’ Naked Lunch. It’s dope, yet I have seen enough junkies in my life to make them not really intriguing on paper.
Netic: The Seventh Son Tales of Alvin Maker by Orson Scott Card. And Californication, cuz I feel about as dysfunctional as Hank Moody.
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?
Yohimbe: My Mom was a waitress at this NYC Club SOBs and a lot of big reggae, world music and hip-hop groups play there. I saw a lot of gigs there growing up. The first rock show I remember was Nirvana in NYC. I was too young, so I said I was going to a friends and we all were able to sneak in. Awesome until I was standing near the pit and I got hit by this guys head and lost half of my front tooth.
Netic: Janet Jackson: Rhythm Nation tour. Amazing. I was really young so just seeing anything with that amount of lights and dancing was awesome. LOL.
8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
Yohimbe: On tour I have to have: Taylor Travel Guitar, my PSP, Vitamin C packs.
Netic: 1) iPod 2) books 3) Taser: You never know when you need to wake someone up
9. Who are your major musical influences?
Yohimbe: Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Megadeth, Metallica, Thin Lizzy, Cure, In Flames, Children Of Bodom, John Coltraine, Pharaoh Sanders
Netic: Prince and Bjork.
Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?
Yohimbe: Condoms are your friend; Herpes is your enemy.
Netic: Wear condoms. Oh, watch Zeitgiest. And don’t believe anything that the Government says!
