Californian songstress Colbie Caillat talks ethics, philosophy and German prostitutes in this week’s Hot Seat.
1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
Colbie Caillat: I was just in Hambourg Germany, I walked out of the hotel I was staying at with my guitar player and my assistant to go get dinner. The restaurant was 1 block away, I was filming our walk with my Flip video camera cause the street looked really cool. We walked past some German prostitutes who didn’t like that I had my camera out, so they ran up to me, yelling at me in German, and then one of the chics punched me in the side of the head. It was crazy! I got out of it immediately and was fine but man that could have been bad. I couldn’t help but laugh once I got to safety though. : )
2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?
Colbie Caillat: Ethics, Philosophy. I like opening my mind up to new opinions, challenging my brain to think harder about life situations, scenarios, questioning topics, explaining why I feel a certain way about something and listening to what others think about the subject and hearing their reasons why.
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Colbie Caillat: I love New York City! Manhattan is filled with this amazing energy, liveliness, and everyone in the city is always awake it seems. I love that you can walk out on the street at any time of day or night and there is something fun for you to do. Its a big playground.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
Colbie Caillat: -”If you wanna be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere, then you better wake up and pay attention.”
Also, To BREAKTHROUGH my fears and insecurities, challenge myself everyday and allow myself to grow up and become who I really what to be, who I know I can be.
And to not take myself too seriously.
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?
Colbie Caillat: On top rotation on my ipod at the moment is: Adele “Melt My Heart to Stone”, Kings of Leon “Sex is on Fire”, Bob Marley “Waiting in Vain”. Notorious B.I.G. “Notorious Thugs” and “Juicy”.
6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
Colbie Caillat: I don’t read enough books, I always fall asleep reading them. “The DaVinci Code” was really good though. I love the shows Friends, Lost, and The Office.
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?
Colbie Caillat: My parents took my sis and I to see Fleetwood Mac at the Hollywood Bowl, we went backstage after the show and hung with the band, it was amazing. I can’t wait to play there someday!
