Former Freshmen winning artist Christina K. talks about her love for NYC, and offers up some great advice about life in this week’s Hot Seat.
1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
Christina K. I was doing a show in Arizona last year, and missed my flight back to the city. I had checked out of the hotel, couldn’t get in touch with the promoter and was pretty much without shelter or transportation. Luckily, I made some friends pretty quickly.
2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?
Christina K.: I would love to take a Psychology class. You meet so many different people and deal with so many personalities doing music, having that extra insight about why we do the things we do is a definite plus. A few mind control and brainwashing tactics could probably be useful too…lol
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Christina K.: New York is my #1. Of course the weather isn’t as nice as Miami or LA, but the energy is unmatched. Its so inspiring to see so many unique individuals all in one place. From clubs, restaurants, shops and galleries… There is just so many different things to do… You can party at about 5 or 6 spots in one night and it all flows so smooth and seems to be never ending.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
Christina K.: Jump. A close friend of mine told to stop being scared and just let go.
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?
Christina K.: Songs from my upcoming Moonlight in Oz project, “Supernova” by Mr. Hudson, “Congratulations” by Drake, “Life in LA” by Chester French, “Building with a Grain of Salt” by DJ Shadow, and “Starstruck” by Santigold. I swear of all the songs I have, I just listen to these over and over and over again.
6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
Christina K.: I’m more of an internet junkie to be honest… but since For the Love of Ray J has wrapped, I’d have to say CSI Miami is back to being my favorite.
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?
Christina K.: TLC. I was obsessed with those girls when I was lil. I made my mom take me to see them perform. It was awesome, just wish we had better seats.
8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
Christina K.: My Blackberry, MacBook Pro and favorite black chucks… Everything else can be figured out.
9. Who are your major musical influences?
Christina K.: Kanye, Missy, Timbaland, Kelis, Nelly Furtado and Pharrell.
10.Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?
Christina K.: Regrets are the root of all evil.
