Add-2
Chicago’s own Add-2 stops by and answers our burning questions in this week’s mtvU Hot Seat.
1. Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
When I went to Detroit the promoter’s friend came to the station to pick me and my partner Slot-A up. We went to meet up with the promoter and to get his key to the house we were staying at and when we came back to the car it wouldn’t start. He tried everything but it wasn’t working. He tried to find someone to help him but no one would give us a jump. Finally one guy came out of nowhere said he would help and as soon as we thought we were finally saved the guy goes to turn his car on and his doesn’t start either and we had two cars parked outside that needed a jump.
2. What type of college class would you’d most want to take and why?
I would take Video Editing classes cause I love the whole creative process and that its mostly hands on. Usually there isn’t a lot of test or papers just filming, editing, logging video and showing off the final project. Any class that keeps me out the library is a good one.
3. What city in America is the most fun to visit and why?
Its a tie between New York and St. Louis. New York has so much to see and to do and its really is the perfect example of a melting pot cause you literally see every type of person and all in the same area. And St. Louis because they know how to party and have a good time. I was just there last week and we went to four different clubs, we seen an old man in one dancing like he was in a 90’s rap video, finally got back home at 4:30am and got up at 7am to leave on the bus. Good times.
4. What’s some of the best advice you were ever given?
“Never trust a big butt and a smile” Bel Biv Devoe…true words from some very wise men.
5. What’s in heavy rotation in your MP3/CD player right now?
I’ve been listening to J. Cole’s Warm Up mixtape, Jay Electronica’s Exhibit A, B & C and a lot of 90’s R&B like Mary J, Blackstreet, D’Angelo etc. I think I’m one of the few emcee’s who doesn’t listen to a lot of rap everyday.
6. The last good book you read or TV show you’re addicted to.
Right now I’m completely addicted to “Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia”. I’ve bought all the dvd’s and I’m only missing season 3 right now. The whole cast is funny and its mostly just dirty humor but I love it. If you haven’t seen it before please smack yourself, get a late pass and go watch the musical episode as soon as possible.
7. What’s the first concert you ever saw - how was it?
The first concert I went to was in 2004 when I went to see Erykah Badu & Floetry. I was a little mad at first because my date took hours to get ready even though she said she'd be ready in 5 minutes and I completely missed the Floetry show but I got a chance to see Erykah Badu rock and I was amazed. She was pregnant at the time and she really didn't move a lot but I was still entertained the entire time and didn't notice...not to mention she started playing a MPC and made a beat on stage. How dope is that?
8. What are three items you can’t live without on tour?
My laptop, my cell phone and my Simpsons dvd’s. You give me those three things then you probably won’t hear a word from me for hours.
9. Who are your major musical influences?
Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Nas, Common, 2pac and Kanye West. Their music always inspires me to create and motivates me to try to make work that’s timeless.
Any random messages or tips you’d like to give to mtvU watchers?
If you’re not a morning person, do NOT take early morning classes. I tried and seriously almost failed college P.E. And also download my mixtape/album Tale Of Two’s City Vol.3 on 2Dopeboyz.com or Okayplayer.com its great studying music, walking to class music, getting in trouble with your RA cause your music is too loud music etc.
