We The Kings

Fueled by fast food burritos and unlimited breadsticks, We The Kings only do one speed: full throttle. Named after the middle school where they met, this Bradenton, Florida foursome have basically been a band since they were born. And it shows. Hyperactive guitar lines are simultaneously wildly haphazard and spandex-tight --- their vocals soaring and harmony-laden. The next time somebody tells you pop-punk is dead, spit We The Kings in their eye.

Georgie James

Jumping back and forth between Fender Rhodes-driven '70s pop ditties and twitchy turn-of-the-century post-punk, Georgie James are fast surpassing George Bush's word choice as the most interesting thing in Washington, D.C. Assembled from fragments of Q and Not U, The Explosion and The Loved Ones, Georgie James go from Aimee Mann to Gang of Four on a dime.
Now in the midst of a world tour, Georgie James have been on the road for months supporting their Saddle Creek debut, Places.

You know how snacks nowadays -- like chips and whatnot -- have so much flavor that your mouth feels like it was just born every time you eat one? Yeah, well, Kid Sister is pretty much that. She's like those honey mustard pretzels that you can't even believe are real. The Chi-town rapper's got her big brother on the decks, her toes done up and her fingernails matching. She's so flavor that even Kanye has double-dipped.
Listen for him on "Pro Nails," if your ears aren't smiling too hard to hear.

Liam Finn
Liam Finn

New Zealander Liam Finn's songs are so pretty that you could just about fall down crying. Like mini, self-contained movie soundtracks, they burble and swell, scoring universes of invisible action. Gum drop xylophones ride locomotive guitar lines past bleachers packed with elves who sing along with every chorus (everyone from New Zealand knows at least a few elves). But this isn't the twee jamboree that the gum drops imply. It's alternate fantasy universe folk pop and you're gonna follow it home.

In case you miss the dark side of their new wave disco-clash on first listen, The Fashion have gone ahead and decorated their stark, black album cover with knives. Thoughtful, right? After a year of topping Euro charts and darkening Danish dance floors, The Fashion's prime cuts are finally set to kill it stateside. Between relentless guitar chops and synth slams, they manic panic past Editors and Interpol with more pep than a Pepsi. But beware. Like Gloria Estefan, they cut both ways.
