About KRFH
KRFH has been Humboldt County’s only student-run, freeform radio station since 1990. HSU Professor Gary Melton believed that the only way for students to understand how great radio could be was to put them in charge of their own station, so that’s what he did. KRFH has been a runaway success ever since, from its time as a cult club with an underground-but-devoted fan base, to its time as an internet-based streaming success. KRFH isn’t just a training ground for students with their eyes on a career in broadcasting; it’s open to everyone. Students are allowed to do whatever they want with their shows (as long as it fits within FCC guidelines) and are guaranteed at least an hour of broadcasting a week. With over 60+ DJs per semester, all with their own eclectic tastes, it’s all but guaranteed you’ll find a show seemingly meant for you.
