Upon first listen, The Pains of Being Pure of Heart seem to have stepped out of a 1980s pop lab. But this group cleverly inserts their own unique twists into the music, anything from curse words in a title to Peggy Wang-East light breathy harmonizing, in order to produce the original songs of their self-titled debut. Performing unreleased material, the group brings their lulling, yet straightforward, style to mtvU’s Ahead of the Curve.
