Don't forget--to be eligible for an mtvU Grant, your project/idea must be:

  • - NEW: This means that the Venture as a whole or the specific initiative that the students want funded must not already be in existence. If the program has already been started, it is ineligible.
  • - SUSTAINABLE: The Venture must be sustainable in terms of membership, leadership, and finances. The Venture should be created with structures in place so it has the potential to outlast its founders. It should not be a short-term project.
  • - BENEFICIAL: The Venture must benefit the community-- either the student community or the community at large.

Also keep in mind:

  • - You must be a part or full-time student at an mtvU school to apply for a Grant. Not sure if you attend an mtvU school to apply for the grant. Not sure if you attend an mtvU school? Click here to find out.
  • - Priority will be given for proposals that support the creation of sustainable organizations, clubs, or businesses, that that aid children, teenagers, the elderly, the homeless and the citizens and communities who have lost so much from this disaster.

If you would like to pursue a project related to hurricane relief:

  • - You can create an organization solely for the purpose of raising and distributing funds for those in need but remember that the grant money must be used to support the start-up costs of your proposed venture. Grant money cannot be used to make a donation to an existing organization or contribute to your fundraising goals.
  • - Applications for one-time projects will not be considered-- you must create a sustainable organization/initiative-- Your organization can continue to forge ties and help the Gulf region or you can launch an organization that works on many different causes, the first of which is Hurricane Katrina aftermath.
  • - One of the major criteria for the contest is that your organization must "benefit your community." Hurricane relief speaks to importance of community in a larger sense.
  • - Be creative and think about what you can do in the areas of health, education, the environment, or any need that can be met -- any way you can help to alleviate the suffering, make life easier, and demonstrate that young people care. This is an enormous challenge for the people affected and for the country -- YOU can make a difference.
