Every semester, mtvU identifies five up-and-coming artists that are primed to jump from campus favorites to household names. Here are the 5 bands you need to spring forward with as winter comes to a close. Take a look and tell us your favorite.
Aussie alt-pop band The Trip and their fans dominated this weeks Freshmen vote with It Boys! coming in a commendable second. The Trip’s frisbee-slinging video for “On The First Time” will hit the airwaves next week. We’ll be back on Monday with a special edition of Freshmen 5, where we’ll feature the 5 bands who are sure to be taking ear canals by storm on campus this spring. Charlie Boy Gang, Collide, Famous, It Boys! and The Trip all fight for a spot in rotation on this week’s Freshmen.
A ton of votes this week with strong showings by Jimmy Needham and Alex Young with Mental Elastic Dynasty nearly coming from behind to claim victory in the last minute. But Jimmy Needham held strong and has come out on top. His video for “Grace Amazing” will be added into rotation next week. Congrats to Josh Baze and his fans who claimed this weeks Freshmen win. Josh held a pretty commanding lead all week with Nick Carter Green coming in second. Boone, Cosmo Jarvis, Josh Baze, Maffew Rigazino and Nick Carter Green all fight for a spot in rotation this week.
A super close race on The Freshmen this week with Newsboys and Dominic Balli going head to head all week. Newsboys pulled ahead in the end and won by a narrow margin. Their video for “Miracles” will be added into rotation Monday. Props to Dominic Balli and his rabid fanbase as well. We’ll be back next week with 5 new videos in contention.
B. Madison, Dominic Balli, Katie Herzig, Newsboys and Youngest 1’s all fight for a spot in rotation on this week’s Freshmen.
J. Ivy and Split Second battled it out on this epic two-week round of The Freshmen with J. Ivy claiming victory in the end. “WAR” will be added into rotation Monday. The Freshmen is going on holiday for a bit but will return, after we’ve consumed suffiicent quantities of egg nog and cookies, on January 9th.
