mtvU is MTV Networks’ Peabody and Emmy Award-winning 24-hour college network-the largest and most comprehensive media network just for college students. The heart of the channel is the emerging music students live their lives to, including music videos and a range of series profiling the up-and-coming acts bubbling on the college scene.
Broadcasting to 750 campuses and over 7.5 million college students nationwide, mtvU can be seen in the dining halls, fitness centers, student lounges and residence halls on campuses throughout the country.
mtvU is the first MTV Networks channel distributed in its entirety via broadband, streaming 24/7 and on demand right here on mtvU.com, featuring all of mtvU’s television content plus exclusive new music, original shows and student-produced programming for students and music fans everywhere.
Whether on-air, online or on mobile phones, all of mtvU’s programming is short form-no show is longer than the length of a music video. Series encompass everything from the best student-produced content and national and local college news to student-led pro-social initiatives such as Half of Us, a campaign tackling the mental health epidemic that affects at least half of the student population.
Emmy-nominated Stand In features global icons like Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, Madonna, John McCain, Sting and Kanye West surprise-teaching a college course for the day. And each week Dean’s List gives a different college student the chance to be an mtvU VJ-for-the-day, running down their top 10 music video picks for the national college audience.
mtvU also owns and operates RateMyProfessors.com, the largest college professor rating site in the country. With almost 7.5 million student-generated ratings of over one million professors at nearly 6,000 schools, RateMyProfessors.com has become an important resource for students when planning their course loads. An average of 1.5 million users a month consult the site for its student-generated ratings.
The mtvU network is a creative laboratory. With contests to find the best musicians, filmmakers, writers, digital pioneers and activists on campus, students get the chance to showcase their talents on a national stage and jumpstart their careers. mtvU is also on campus, with more than 500 events per year, including exclusive concerts, giveaways and mtvU program shoots. Further, mtvU Grants give student activists up to $1,000 every week of the school year to support their pro-social initiatives.
mtvU is part of MTV Networks, a unit of Viacom, which also includes MTV, MTV2, VH1, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, TV Land, Comedy Central, Spike TV, CMT and others.
